Notts Forest claimed their first honour when they won the 1898 FA Cup (defeating rivals Derby County). However, for much of the first half of the 20th century the club spent their time in the Second Division (and had to get re-election in 1914 after finishing bottom). In 1949 the club were demoted to the Third Division, however bounced back 2 years later as champ the Second. A short period of glory followed at the end of the 1950s, as they regained First Division status in 1957 and gained the FA Cup for a second time in 1959,
